Q&A with Jeff Winslow, Manufacturing Engineer

Q: What excites you the most about working at a company like Apex?
I am excited to be a part of a small start-up company with big dreams of becoming the largest producer of standard product satellite buses. The approach at which our company is taking to avoid mission-specific configurations and offer a line of “standard” products is what makes for high volume / low-cost production.I am excited to get the production facility up and running to support our dreams!

Q: Why are you excited about space?
I have been a space enthusiast wayback when I was young boy watching the original “Lost in Space” TV shows. I would watch the family Robinson deal with all sorts of issues & situations, working as team to solve their problems. I knew then I would be involved with space in my future. I have been in the Aerospace Industry for over 30 years now and have been fortunate to work with great engineers over my career. I have been lucky to be part of teams directly working on the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU – SpaceSuit), Space Shuttle, Space Station and Parker Solar Probe programs. Being a former employee of Terran Orbital, I also was part of several satellite programs. I have also spent half my career working with or nations new line of NuclearSubmarines, the Sea Wolf Class & Virginia Class. I think that our “InnerSpace” under our oceans, is equally interesting as the outer space. I am excited to see how we as a species, progress both to inner and outer space in my lifetime.

Q: You are somewhat new here at Apex. What has surprised you the most so far?
The culture and people for sure. I love the attitude that there is nothing that we can’t accomplish. The team’s ambition working towards the same goal of becoming the best bus provider of reliable spacecraft in the galaxy has been a great experience so far and I am looking forward meeting our goals.

Q: Tell us a bit about what you do in your free time.
Spending time with family, my wife, and our new puppy Willow. I am a big sport fan, so watching the Yankees and the Raiders is always on the agenda. After retiring from over 30 years of playing competitive softball, I have taken up golf and try to spend as much time allowed on the golf course as well. My wife and I also mix in travel when possible, to our national parks and abroad.
